Covered before you go.
Follow a trip from home and back: each thing that can go wrong lights up the cover that pays for it. Then pick your kind of trip and go to each insurer’s own page for it. No advice, and we always say how we earn.
picktheinsurance links you to travel insurers and earns a commission if you buy. It is not an insurer and gives no advice. Read the policy wording before you buy.
Pick your kind of trip
Each page says what to check, then lists every insurer’s own page for that kind of trip.
The three insurers are below, the same for every trip. No advice: read the policy wording.
The words that decide a claim, lit up
Most claims that fail, fail on a few words. Tap one to see where it sits in a policy.
It sits in your schedule of cover, not the headline. Check it per person, and any sub-limits inside it. More
It can apply per claim, per person or per section. Some plans let you pay more to remove it. More
Often excluded unless declared and accepted. Read the definition and answer the questions fully. More
Diving, trekking and winter sports often have their own limits, listed in an appendix or the schedule.
Only the reasons the policy lists count. Changing your mind is rarely one of them. More
Section 2. Emergency medical expenses. We will pay reasonable and necessary costs of emergency treatment abroad, up to the limit shown in your schedule of cover.
Excess. You pay the first part of each claim, the amount shown in your schedule, before we pay the rest.
Exclusions. We will not pay for any medical condition you knew about before you bought this policy, unless we agreed to cover it in writing.
Activities. You are covered for the activities in Appendix A. Scuba diving deeper than the depth listed, and trekking above the altitude listed, are covered only if shown in your schedule.
Section 5. Cancellation. We will pay for unused travel and accommodation you cannot get back if you cancel for one of the reasons listed in this section.
